Dear Students and Volunteers,
I have not received the classroom assignment for Wednesday, Thursday and Friday's conversation group sessions. I will e-mail out the confirmation as soon as I receive the location. As a result, confirmations may be e-mailed within 48 hours prior to the session for Wednesday's sessions. I apologize for the delay.
There have been many changes to the locations of classrooms and the number of openings. Thus, we removed the list of openings and will post an updated version of the group openings when we get a chance.

All confirmations for conversation groups and conversation partners sessions on Mondays and Tuesdays have been sent.
We are still waiting on the scheduling office to give us the rest of the classroom assignments (Wednesdays to Fridays).
If you made an appointment with a conversation session on either Mondays or Tuesdays but have not received the e-mail confirmation, please contact the coordinator and she will help you on Monday morning.

I have just informed that TutorTrac is down for the past twenty minutes. Thus, if you are trying to log on to make appointments, you won't be able to till later. In order to accommodate this situation, we are going to once again extend the online registration till 8 p.m. today.
We have decided to extend the online registration till 1 p.m. today. We will start grouping conversation groups that are full first and then with groups that have 5 or more people in each group. You are more than welcome to still join groups that have openings. Please keep in mind that you are signing up for 10 sessions throughout the semester.
We will continue to put up conversation partners if we have more. There are a couple of volunteers who are interested and I may post it up some time this afternoon.
After today, everything will be based on the back-up schedule slip.
1) All conversation sessions start the week of Sept. 24.
Many students and volunteers are asking about the location for this week. Even though the LAS confirmation says you are meeting up this week, the conversation sessions DO NOT start until next week. Please ignore ALL e-mails from LAS (appointment reminders or missed appointments). Only FINAL CONFIRMATION from me counts.
2) Location for conversation groups will be sent out at least 48 hours before actual sessions.
Location for conversation groups or conversation partners who have requested a classroom will be sent out at least 48 hours before the session you signed up. Scheduling office has not responded to me for the request that I put it. I will send that out as soon as I can but at least 48 hours before the session(s) you signed up for.
3) Sign up once for one session to indicate 10 sessions.
Please only sign up once under your session. When you sign up for the week of Sept. 17 or Sept. 24 once, it means you are attending for 10 sessions throughout the semester. Change the search dates to 9/19 to 9/26 since students can no longer view the sessions on Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday of this week.
4) You may sign up for more than one group (up to two groups) starting 5 p.m. today (Wednesday, Sept. 19).
Since we have 4 more groups than we have had in the past, we have decided that we are going to allow students to sign up for two groups starting 5 p.m. today. Thus, if you haven't signed up for a group, please do so before 5 p.m. today.
5) Please read volunteer's bio and specific requests on the Program Blog under student registration (www.umdesol.weebly.com).
There have been students who sign up for conversation partners without reading the volunteer bio and the preferences that the volunteers indicated at the registration sessions. Thus, please check to make sure that you are qualified for the volunteers' preferences. For example, volunteers requesting for Spanish Language Exchange may like to work with students who actually speak Spanish. We would to honor their request. If you find yourself in such a situation, please e-mail me as soon as possible and we will to find a way to find possible alternatives. Otherwise, you may be dropped from your conversation partners.
6) Please DO NOT e-mail your volunteers or any other volunteers prior to the final confirmation.
Several volunteers contacted me and said that they have been receiving e-mails from students with questions that we have covered in the registration sessions. Please don't scare our volunteers away before the semester even starts. It's really hard to recruit them, keep them and have them want to come back for next semester.

Please put from 9/17 to 9/21 for the date range due to students' limited view of the Tutor Trac Availabilities.
Please also make sure that you check your volunteer's volunteer bio and the additional notes under Volunteer Bio.
Mismatch of gender preferences and other preferences may result in students being dropped from the specific conversation session.
More volunteers' schedule and information will be confirmed and updated throughout the rest of the week.
No late pre-registration will be accepted after 10:00 a.m. of today (9/15, 2012).
Students who pre-registered late will be dropped from any conversation partner settings unless it is through Language Exchange. It is only fair that students who pre-registered on time have a better chance to get a conversation partner.

Due to the back-to-back registration session and technical difficulties with our system (Tutor Trac), we are experiencing a delay in opening up volunteers' conversation sessions and making them available for the students. We have been updating them and will make them visible for all the students. In order to be fair, we will open up our online registration starting 10 a.m. tomorrow morning. I sincerely apologize for the inconvenience this may have caused. For those who received a ticket, you will be assigned a conversation partner based on the time you indicated.
